2009 - May/June Update
The NIH Library
has negotiated multi-site licenses for many formerly Bethesda-only titles, so
that NCI-Frederick now has access to even more resources. We are very grateful
to the NIH Library for their efforts!

Genomics KnowledgeBase - The Structural Genomics
Knowledgebase (SGKB) is a free, comprehensive resource produced in a
collaboration between the Protein Structure Initiative (PSI) and Nature
Publishing Group (NPG). The site offers you an easy way of keeping abreast
of developments both by the PSI and more generally in the fields of structural
genomics and structural biology.
-
NCBI
BioSystems Database - biological pathways databases
which can be searched directly or accessed via links from Entrez Gene, Protein,
PubChem Compound, and more.
Off-Site Access Problems - (via EZ Proxy server) - if
you experience any problems obtaining an article to which you believe we have
access, try the following -
- From the Online Journals list, see if the
year you are trying to access is available to NCI-Frederick. Please
contact the Library to tell us
the journal title. We will check our server configuration file. Publishers may
change a journal's URL so that it is not recognized by the
server.
- Check the URL line to be sure the
proxy server code 'ezlib' is there; if you see it, you are in the proxy
server (Depending on the publisher, if you search within a journal title, you
may be bumped out of the proxy server.)
e.g. for Nature
Medicine, if you see the URL as follows:
http://www.nature.com.ezlib.ncifcrf.gov/nm/archive/index.html,
you are in the proxy server.
- PubMed@NCIF
- there are known problems with EZ Proxy and PubMed whereby, depending on the
publisher, you may be moved out of the server and as a result not recognized.
We are working to find a way to prevent this problem.
- Off-site access is restricted to
NCI-Frederick employees with a Library barcode. If you need a barcode,
please bring your NCI-F ID to the Library, or call x1093 for
information.
2009 - February Update
The NIH Library
has negotiated the addition of backfiles to existing journal titles as well as
new multi-site access licenses including NCI-Frederick. We are very grateful to

New Databases: accessible on
Databases page
- Biobase Knowledge Library
(BKL) - formerly Proteome BioKnowledge Library, this new
systems tool includes a new version of the analysis tool, ExPlain.
BKL is installed on the Helix Systems at NIH. It is a powerful,
web-based collection of gene-regulation oriented scientific databases including
Transfac, Transpath, and some Proteome databases (HumanPSD,
YPD, WormPD). The ExPlain analysis tool can use data in BKL to create a
biological interpretation of microarray, proteomic, and ChIP-chip data, and
more. Note: Access to these resources will require your NIH domain
username and password. Tutorials for using the tools are also available on the
CIT website.
(NIH/NCIF)
- Carcinogenic Potency Database:
CPDB - developed at the University of California, Berkeley, and
Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, provides standardized analyses of the results of
6540 chronic, long-term animal cancer tests that have been conducted since the
1950's and reported in the general published literature or by NCI and NLM's
National Toxicology Program. Used in support of cancer risk assessments for
humans, the tests are searchable via NLM's TOXNET system.
- DXplain -
Diagnostic Decision Support (DXplain) is a decision support system using
clinical findings (signs, symptoms, labs) to produce a ranked list of
diagnoses. For each diagnosis, it provides justification for consideration,
further clinical data to collect, and atypical findings. DXplain doesn't
offer definitive medical consultation and should not be used as a substitute
for physician diagnostic decision making.
(NIH/NCIF)
- HIV Databases
- These databases contain data on HIV genetic sequences,
immunological epitopes, drug resistance-associated mutations, and
vaccine trials. Also included is access to a large number of tools that
can be used to analyze these data. This project is funded by the Division of
AIDS of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
