Open-access (OA) literature is digital, online, free of charge, and with consent by the author, has no copyright and licensing restrictions. Major OA initiatives for scientific and scholarly literature insist on the importance of peer review. OA literature is not free to produce and is often paid for by author fees or institutional memberships. Learn more about Open Access and the NIH Public Access Policy.
