Discussion Questions

==========================================================

PART OF
REWARDS: a Multi-Part Learning Program

1. What is a sundog? Have you ever seen one before? If so, did you know what it meant?

2. A "sundog moment" is a tangible moment of hope you can wrap your arms around when life suddenly changes, and you feel you no longer have control over anything. One real sundog moment in the book is the story of Ian and Adrienne Moore's godchild. Can you identify other sundog moments in the story? Have you had any of your own.?

3. Discuss Virginia Mae. Do you know anyone like her? Can you understand why she sees life the way she does, and why she is so worried about her daughter?

4. Why do you think the Moores reacted so differently to their circumstances than did the Whittlers? Have you encountered situations you have no control over? If so, how did you cope with them?

5. What did you think of the essay from Lynn Sears Howard? Can you relate to any of it?

6. How did you react to Carl Sanders's situation? How did it make you feel? What do you think happened at the last moment of his life?

7. Should people with chronic illnesses be allowed to use medicinal marijuana? How has the government handled this issue? Has your opinion changed after reading this book?

8. Faith is the substance of hope, the evidence of things not seen. Can you relate to this in your life? Is faith important? Why, or why not?

9. What is more important -- to be physically or spiritually healed? Does it matter?

10. Carol and Gordon become friends because they are both hurting. At the end of the book, their friendship seems to deepen. Were you surprised by this?

11. Gregory's future is uncertain, but Kellan is not afrad of what could happen. How would you feel in such a situation? Do you know someone who has dealt with this kind of issue?
