10th Annual Book & Media Swap
The Scientific Library staff will celebrate October's National Medical Librarians Month by sponsoring our
10th Annual Book & Media Swap!
Our theme this year is taken from October's National Medical Librarians Month --
"Fishing For Quality Health Information? @sk Your Medical Librarian."
Take advantage of this popular event to and audiovisuals that you have enjoyed in exchange for ones you have not yet encountered. We will accept all gently-used books, videotapes, audio cassettes, vinyl records, CDs, and DVDs, as long as three requirements are met:
1) All materials must be CLEAN and in GOOD CONDITION.
2) All materials must be commercially produced. We cannot accept any
home-recorded or amateur-created products.
3) All materials must be personal items. Please do NOT include materials that
have been purchased by your project. Those items are government property, and
may NOT be donated to this activity.
NOTE: We will accept magazines as donations ONLY. Magazines will not be
included in your Swap donations, and will not be counted or recorded on your
"book card."
Beginning Tuesday, September 29, you can bring your materials to the Library, or to our table at the
Farmer's Market. We will issue to you a "book card" that lists your name and the
number of materials that you have donated. We will accept donations until 5:00
p.m. on Tuesday, October 27.
NEW THIS YEAR! The Book Swap is
observing its 10th anniversary this year, which is the "TIN" anniversary. To help
celebrate, we invite you to bring in some canned goods when you drop off your
donated books. We will collect canned goods throughout October, and then we
will donate the food to the local Frederick County Food Bank.
Mark you calendars for THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29,
because at 10:00 a.m. on that day, in the Conference Center Lobby of Building
549, the Book Swap will begin! You can bring your "book card" to the Swap and
select your "new" items. This is an item-for-item swap, so you can take home as
many items as you bring in. You do not have to make an exact swap. For
example, if you bring in 3 DVDs, you can take 3 items from ANY category, not
just from the DVD collection.
Beginning Friday, October 30, the Book & Media Swap will continue in the Scientific Library
in Building 549. At the conclusion of the Swap at the end of November, all
unclaimed materials will be donated to local charities.
