  • AAAS Stem Cell WebPage - information on stem cell research issues from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Center for Science, Technology & Congress.

  • Antibody Explorer - from Sigma-Aldrich, browse or search for antibodies with a gene or by cell signaling pathway.

  • BioChemWeb.org

  •  Biocomplexity Thesaurus - database of 5 thesauri developed by the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII).

  •  Bioethics Central - From Genome News Network (GNN) and the Center for the Advancement of Genomics (TCAG), this site serves as a guide to primary materials including landmark documents, legislation, and academic programs that have shaped the bioethics field.

  • Biological Procedures Online - an open access-based journal of research methods in the medical and biological sciences.

  • Biology Workbench - web-based tool for biologists allowing searching of popular protein and nucleic acid sequence databases. Registration is free but required. Maintained by San Diego Supercomputer Center.

  • BioResearch Online Newsletter - laboratory biology, genetics, and biotechnology; drug discovery and clinical trials; laboratory-scale instruments; production of materials for clinical trials and more.

  • C. elegans Worm Atlas - behavioral and structural anatomy of C.elegans funded by NIH DRR Center for Anatomical Studies.

  • CMS Molecular Biology Resource - online tools and resources for Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Evolution, Biochemistry, and Biomolecular Modeling.

  • Computational Molecular Biology at NIH - Desk Reference

  • Functional Genomics - from Science magazine, a portal for genomics and biotechnology.

  • GenBank - from NCBI, a searchable, genetic sequence database with an annotated collection of all publicly available DNA sequences.

  • GeneCards - integrated database of human genes, genomic, proteomic and transcriptomic information, as well as orthologies, disease relationships, SNPs, gene expression, gene function, and service links for ordering assays and antibodies. Free to academic non-profit institutions.

  • GENEMAP'99 - gene map with chromosome locations of over 30,000 human genes.

  • Genome Glossary - glossary of genetic terms from the U.S. DOE Human Genome Program.

  • genomics.energy.com - genome programs of the U.S. DOE Office of Science.

  • GXD (Gene Expression Database) - funded by an NIH/NICHD grant, a community resource for gene expression information from the laboratory mouse

  • Harvard University Biology Links - biology web resources

  • HuGENet - From the CDC, the Human Genome Epidemiology Network (HuGENet) is a global collaboration of individuals and organizations committed to the assessment of the impact of human genome variation on population health & how genetic information can be used to improve health & prevent disease.

  • Microarray Project (National Human Genome Research Institute) - information about microarray techniques and and the Microarray Project with links to downloadable protocols.

  • The Microbiology Network - free service sponsored by microbiology companies to provide a communication resource for the microbiologist in pharmaceutical, medical device and personal products industries.

  • National Center for Biotechnology Information - links to all NCBI databases, including GenBank (nucleotide & protein sequences), Structures (3-dimensional viewing of protein structures), Genomes (full & partial genomes of organisms), and more.

  • National Center for Genome Resources (NCGR) - non-profit research institution dedicated to improving human health, nutrition and the environment.

  • Nucleic Acid Database - repository of three-dimensional structural information about nucleic acids supported by funds from the NSF and the DOE.

  • Nucleic Acids Research Methods - each collection is a category-specific archive of Methods published in NAR since 1999 with the number of articles currently in each collection noted. (NCIF)

  • Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) - a catalog of human genes and genetic disorders authored and edited by Dr. Victor A. McKusick and colleagues, developed for the web by NCBI.

  • Protocol Online - database of research protocols in life science fields. Includes protocols contributed by worldwide researchers with links to web protocols hosted by worldwide research labs, biotech companies, personal web sites.

  • PubCrawler - free "alerting" service that scans daily updates to PubMed and GenBank.

  • Recombinant DNA - NIH Guidelines - from the NIH Office of Science Policy, Office of Biotechnology Activities, NIH guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules (standards guiding containment and safe research practices); Institutional Biosafety Committees; Recombinant DNA Advisory Committees, GeMCRIS (resource for adverse event reporting), Workshops and more.

  • Signaling Gateway (Nature-UCSD) - a comprehensive resource on signal transduction.

  • Talking Glossary of Genetic Terms - NHGRI - from the NHGRI, a free searchable glossary of genetic terms with an audio glossary helpful for pronunciation of terms.

  • Tree of Life - project designed to contain information about the phylogenetic relationships and characteristics of organisms, illustrate the diversity of living organisms and link biological information available on the Internet.

  • TreeBASE - relational database of phylogenetic information hosted by the Yale Peabody Museum.

  • UCSC Genome Bioinformatics Gateway - from the Genomic Bioinformatics Group of UC Santa Cruz, contains the reference sequence and working draft assemblies for a large collection of genomes and provides a portal to the ENCODE project keyword.

  • WWW Virtual Library: Model Organisms - Links to diverse sites for model organisms.

  • BioInteractive Virtual Museum - from Howard Hughes Medical Institute, medical and scientific topics on display.

  • Bio Links (BioZone) - from Biozone Int'l, resources for senior biology students and teachers.

  • Biology Web Site References for Students & Teachers - topically arranged links to biology sites.

  • DNA Learning Center - from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, this site includes "DNA from the Beginning," an animated lession on genetics geared to those without a scientific background as well as "Eugenics Archive," "Your Genes, Your Health," and DNA Interactive".

  • ELSI: Ethel, Legal, and Social Issues in Science - from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, designed to stimulate discussion of selected areas of scientific research. Useful for educators and students from middle through high schools.

  • Infection Detection Protection - online magazine from the American Museum of Natural History, makes learning about microbes fun.

  • Learn.Genetics - from University of Utah's Genetic Science Learning Center, learn how genetics affect our lives; includes online activities, labs, experiments, and workshops for students, teens, and all others curious about genetics.

  • Tox Town - from NLM, an animated introduction to toxic chemicals and environmental health risks which might be encountered in daily life.

  • Understanding Genetics - from Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, a guide to basic genetics concepts.

  • American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) - freely resource for locating microorganisms, cell lines, and molecular biology materials.

  • Biomedical Companies - over 1455 companies indexed by name, location and type of commercial activity (product/service).

  • BioSupply Net - gateway to catalogs, protocols, Bio Tool kits, career and supplier information.

  • BIOSCI/Bionet - electronic communication forums, bionet USENET newsgroups and parallel e-mail lists, for biological scientists at no charge.

  • Bio-Web - cell and molecular biology news, books, tools and resources.

  • Linscott's Directory of Immunological and Biological Reagents - over 70,000 reagents from over 400 commercial and government suppliers worldwide. Click on 'Site License' to enter database. (NIH/NCIF only)

  • National Biotech Register - information about companies or biotech materials suppliers with product news, free forum, calendar, career information and mailing list.

  • Universal Virus Database - from International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses; describes viruses of animals, plants, bacteria, fungi, and archaea from family level to strains and isolates. Searchable by keyword; supported by NIH/NIAID grant at Columbia University. Related site - Plant Virus Servers/Information.
